Spinner’s Lead Entry Form

. . The Spinner’s Lead takes place on Saturday evening at 5:30 pm at the Hall Park amphitheater. Entrants wear their handspun garments or creations, while leading or carrying, a sheep, goat, bunny, alpaca, llama, dog, cat or other fiber-bearing animal (or like the animal) from whose fiber the garment or creation was constructed. NOTE: for 2007, due to park restrictions, NO ANIMALS will be led in this competition.

The entry fee for contestants is $3 per item. It is an opportunity for the fiber community to introduce the beauty of their creations to the festival community.

The event is open to all producers, spinners and felters of wool, mohair or other fiber. If you wish to enter please read the rules carefully.

. Complete the entry form and mail it to the address shown below. We need a photograph of the animal and a full description of your entry including technique of construction, breed of animal and information about the artist and exhibitor. This will be read to the judges and audience during the fashion show.

Mail-in entries will be accepted until July 20th, however forms will be available at the information table until 2 pm Saturday, with a $5 per item late entry fee. Awards will be presented to third place.

Spinner’s Lead Rules

  • Articles must be 100% handspun (commercial warp or canvas OK).
  • Entries may be hand or machine knit, woven, crocheted or felted.
  • The articles may have been completed during the past year. Items entered in the Skeins & Textiles competition may also be entered in the Spinners’ Lead. Please note this on your entry form so that we may coordinate release of items.
  • The entrant must own the animal that the article is made from. Someone other than the entrant may make the article, although the maker of entered article must be identified on the entry form. A model may display the article, but the entrant must be present during the show.
  • Articles must be at least 80% wool, mohair, or other fiber from the animal lead.
  • Garments should represent the breed of animal on the entry form.
  • A photo of the animal must be attached to the entry form.

Judging Criteria for Spinner’s Lead

  • Originality and difficulty of design.
  • Color, fit and style.
  • Suitability of garment to use of fiber.
  • Overall appearance of entrant and animal.
  • Handspun by entrant.
  • Knit, woven, etc., by entrant.
  • Garment represents breed of animal shown.
  • Essay and photo presentation.

Note: In case of a tie, judges will award bonus points on the basis of originality.
